Together We Transform Thursday: July 14, 2016

The second summer school session started this week and brought with it a renewed sense of energy and excitement. An increased number of our student-athletes are now on campus, including a large number of freshmen from volleyball, football and men's and women's basketball.

In addition to summer school, our student-athletes are working out in preparation for the upcoming year. The number of hours that our coaches are able to spend with our student-athletes are limited so a great deal of time is spent with our strength and conditioning staff in the Dubin Family Athletic Performance Center. I see the work that our student-athletes are investing with our strength coaches as well as on their own time.

There is still a great deal of work to do this summer in preparation for the fall, but I can't wait for all of our student-athletes to come back for the start of a new year. I have a feeling that it's going to be a great one for the Seawolves!

A Great Day for Golf

Perfect weather and positive energy were on full display at the Seawolves United Golf Classic on Monday.

Our annual golf outing benefitting Seawolves United, the annual fundraising initiative for Stony Brook Athletics, featured a record turnout with more than 150 golfers and raised a record $75,000. We always work to raise the bar with our events and Monday was no exception. I want to thank our staff, especially Vinny Accardi and Andrea Lebedinski, and volunteers who helped make the day an overwhelming success. It was also extremely meaningful to have student-athletes representing volleyball and men's and women's basketball. They represent our department in such a positive way and are the best examples of why individuals should support Seawolves United.

The overarching focus of every event that we have is to make certain that the attendees leave with a stronger connection to Stony Brook Athletics than when they arrived. I feel with absolute certainty that we reached our objective on Monday.

The good times will definitely continue at the Touchdown Club Golf Classic on Monday, July 25. Be sure to join us at Willow Creek Golf & Country Club as we raise funds for Stony Brook Football. Please click here to register or learn more.

DiSalvo Scores Big

To say that Samantha DiSalvo is making her presence felt at Stony Brook would be an understatement.

As a sophomore this past season Samantha was a difference-maker on the field for our 6th-ranked women's lacrosse team, scoring 20 goals and helping the team advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. While her accomplishments on the field are notable, it is her work in the classroom that puts the biggest smile on my face.

Samantha was honored as the 2016 America East Scholar-Athlete for women's lacrosse after earning a 4.0 as a biology major. Each of the individual sport winners are eligible for the Male or Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award. Congratulations to Samantha on the amazing year that she had on and off of the field.

Basketball Ticket Information Coming Soon

Last season was a record-breaking year in Island Federal Credit Union Arena and the 2016-17 season is just around the corner. Ticket renewals will be sent very soon and I have a feeling that our fans will appreciate the home schedules for both the men's and women's teams.

If you do not have seats and would like to place a deposit to secure your tickets, please contact the ticket office at 631-632-WOLF or click here for information.

We lost some tremendous seniors from last year, but the expectations remain high. There is outstanding talent on both teams and I'm confident that 2016-17 has the potential to be another monumental year on the hardwood.

Warm regards,

Shawn
