Update on University Pool renovations





Stony Brook, N.Y. - 
Stony Brook Athletics is entering the final months of the renovation of University Pool, with the facility slated to be complete this December.

Lothrop Associates served as the architect for the project, while Fortunato Sons Contracting, Inc. is working as the general contractor for the project, which began construction in January 2015.

Some details of the construction project:

- The existing pool was completely demolished, including the removal of the existing pool deck level.
- A 90 linear foot beam, weighing approximately 120,000 pounds, was removed and replaced over the new diving board area.
- A new concrete pool shell and new pool deck were constructed.  The pool has a maximum depth of 13 feet and will feature a state-of-the-art movable floor in the shallow end that will vary in depth from 7 feet, 2 inches to 0 feet (surface level).  
- Two (2) 1 meter and one (1) 3 meter diving boards will be installed at the west end of the pool. 
- The pool mechanical system has been completely replaced with modern equipment which will be fully automated and include remote monitoring which will help aid in the pool maintenance.
- 
The HVAC system has been updated to have multi-season climate control and a dehumidification system.  The fire alarm and security systems will also be updated.
- At the mezzanine level, the wooden bleachers have been demolished and will be replaced with new bleachers that will maximize seating capacity as well as meet ADA compliance. A glass rail system with stainless steel trim will be installed.
- A new ceiling structure and lighting will be installed
