WEAR YOUR STONY BROOK RED TOMORROW!!!

Strong September

With our fall teams riding a wave of positive momentum, I asked Assistant AD for Communications Brian Miller to look at our combined win total through September and see how it measured against previous years.

What he found out was that the 20 total wins for Football, Volleyball, Men's Soccer and Women's Soccer were the most since 2007. If you add early season wins for Cross County, the total is even higher.

It is an exciting time around our department, and the success of our fall teams only adds to the energy. There are several opportunities to add to our win total this weekend so let's keep it rolling!

Hall of Fame and Homecoming

19429

It's Homecoming week at Stony Brook, and we are looking forward to an incredible weekend that will culminate with our football game against New Hampshire on Saturday.

Homecoming weekend kicks off tomorrow night with the induction ceremony for the Stony Brook Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2017 – and I can't wait. We brought back the Hall of Fame last year after a 10-year hiatus and, as much as we are pushing toward the future, it is critical that we celebrate and honor the past.

We are honoring an outstanding group – longtime swimming coach Dave Alexander; softball standout Alyssa Breres; sparkplug for the 2012 "Shock the World" baseball team Travis Jankowski; basketball great Earl Keith; and Olympian and NCAA champion runner Lucy Van Dalen.

All five helped to propel Stony Brook Athletics to where we are today. Lucy is our only NCAA Division I champion (2012 indoor mile) and traveled all the way from her native New Zealand to be here. Travis, who was a first round pick in the 2012 MLB draft, just wrapped up his season with the San Diego Padres. Alyssa is an account executive for a financial services company on Long Island and Earl recently retired after a long career as a corrections officer and administrator. Sadly, Dave Alexander passed away in 2012 but his contributions throughout the course of his 30-plus years at Stony Brook are immeasurable.

Alyssa, Earl, Travis and Lucy will be with us throughout the weekend, including the game on Saturday. Speaking of Saturday…

The energy will be at a fever pitch by the time kickoff comes at 6 p.m. No one was happy after last week's 24-20 loss to Delaware but there were many positive takeaways, including the continued strong play of quarterback Joe Carbone. Throughout the offseason our coaches praised Joe's command of the offense and believed with conviction that he would develop in 2017. Joe has thrown for 10 touchdowns with no interceptions over the last five games, including a career-high 272 yards against Delaware. His resurgence, along with the stellar play of receiver Ray Bolden, has transformed our offense.

Ticket sales for Saturday have been tremendous so be sure to get your tickets now!

Indoor Training Center Update

18640

The long-awaited Stony Brook Indoor Training Center is coming closer to fruition. Designs for the building were finalized over the summer and the project is now going out to bid for qualified contractors.

Our initial goal was to have the building in place by late 2018 but our new timeline has us opening in early 2019. As with any facility project there are several issues that must be addressed during the design phase. We were able to work through all of those so we should now have smooth sailing ahead!

There are still opportunities to get involved so please consider making a gift toward our Indoor Training Center. Thank you to the Dubin family and all of the supporters who made the project possible. It is going to be a game-changer for Stony Brook Athletics!
