West Point, N.Y. – The Stony Brook women's tennis team opened up their 2017 season today, Feb. 10
th at Army and will play tomorrow against UCONN at 9:30 a.m.
"We came out a little flat in doubles today. I think we were a little nervous with this being our first match," said head coach
Gary Glassman. "However, the entire team stepped up in the singles. It was a tremendous win over a tough and competitive Army team. Today was a great start to the season".
Highlights:
- The Seawolves beat Army in singles 4-3.
- Ester Chikvashvili (Melville, N.Y.) and Amanda Foo (Manhasset, N.Y.) beat Gloria Son and Genevieve McCormick in doubles 5-4.
- Elizabeth Tsvetkov (Brooklyn, N.Y.) took down Melanie Allen after three sets: 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.
- Nadia Smergut (New York, N.Y.) beat Kirby Einck 6-3, 7-6.
- Chikvashvili came out on top in a close match against Bridget Guenard 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
- Ana Rodriguez (La Linea, Spain) took down Yuka Lin in three sets 3-6, 7-6, 6-2.
