Boston, Mass. – The Stony Brook indoor track and field team will compete Friday Feb. 24
th and Saturday Feb. 25
th at the America East Championships, hosted at Boston University.
"It is hard to believe that it is conference Championship time already. We will head to Boston feeling that both squads are ready for a good meet," said head coach
Andy Ronan. "Overall our key performers are healthy, except for
Christina Melian. I had to withdraw Christina from the meet because of an injury she picked up about ten days ago when she slipped on some ice."
"On the women's side we have athletes that will contend for the win in their particular event.
Kaylyn Gordon (triple jump and long jump),
Holly Manning (800m)
Jane Clark (1000m),
Annika Sisson (mile), and
Christine Eisenberg (3000m) all these young ladies have a chance to win, but it will not be easy as all the fields are extremely competitive," continued Ronan. "It is also expected that our 4x400-meter team will challenge very strongly in that event. We then need those that are entering the meet seeded in a scoring position, to at least finish at that ranking or improve on it."
"The men's team has more individuals that will be fighting for scoring positions between third and eighth. Having said that
Wayne Williams is a legitimate contender in the 500 meter,
Danny Connelly is in the mix for the 5000 meter and 3000 meter, and our men's 4 x400 should also get close to the number one spot," added Ronan.
"The bottom line is that both squads know that it's going to be two days of tough competition. They have trained and raced hard in order to be prepared so now it is up to the athletes to compete hard, challenge for scoring positions, and not settle for where they sit on the performance list entering the meet. If they compete hard and commit to the task that has been set for them then we should have a good meet," said Ronan.
Friday's events will begin at 12:00 p.m. and Saturday's events will begin at 10:00 a.m. The 2017 America East Indoor Track and Field Championships will be streamed live on
