ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Stony Brook softball team was unable to get by Santa Clara, falling 13-3 in six innings on the final day of the Lobo Classic. The Seawolves move to 1-11 on the year following the weekend out West.
Highlights
- Santa Clara was the first to score, getting on the board in the first inning before adding six runs in the second. Freshman Taylor Pechin (Harrington, Del.), who made the first start of her career, gave up three runs with no outs and was replaced by junior Maddy Neales (Orange, Calif.) who let up three more before fanning the final three batters of the inning.
- Freshman Melissa Rahrich (Brighton, Colo.) got things going for the Seawolves in the bottom of the inning, sending a home run over the left field wall. Freshmen Riley Craig (Thornton, Colo.) and Jourdin Hering (Federal Way, Wash.) both hit singles up the middle to knock in runs and make it a three-run inning for Stony Brook.
- After a scoreless third, Santa Clara added three more runs in the fourth.
- Rahrich came in to pitch, replacing Neales in the fifth and eventually gave up three more runs in the sixth which resulted in an early finish.
