Philadelphia, Pa. -- A select few of the Stony Brook track and field team participated at the Penn Relays Thursday, April 27th- Saturday, April 29th.
The Seawolves broke a total of five school records, four relay teams advanced to the ECAC or IC4A finals, and senior
Christine Eisenberg improved in the East region for the 3000m steeplechase.
"We compete at the Penn Relays because of the historical importance of the meet to our sport. Also for our athletes to get experience competing at a very high level of competition, also to improve on school records if possible," said head coach
Andy Ronan.
"Our athletes did all that over the last three days. I was very proud of the 24 athletes that competed throughout the meet. They did a great job representing the program and I firmly believe they will be better competitors because of the experience they gained over the last few days," said Ronan.
Highlight
- The women's 4x100m team consisting of Chinque Thompson, Nikki Fogarty, Sarah Militano and Kaylyn Gordon advanced to the ECAC finals with a time 47.11. The team then finished 6th in the final with a time of 47.02
- The women's 4x400m set a school record of 3:50.7.The quartet was made up of Shanee Grant, Chinque Thompson, Mary Chimezie, and Dara Smith. They also advanced to the ECAC final.
- The women's distance medley relay team consisting of: Tiana Guevara, Holly Manning, Melissa Riback, and Annika Sisson placed second with a time of 11:36.07.
- Christine Eisenberg came in third in the women's 3000m Steeplechase with a school record breaking time of 10:09.45.
- Michael Watts ran a season's best time of 14:20.74 in the men's 5000m.
- Danny Connelly ran a personal in the men's 5000m with a time of 14:30.58
- The men's 4x100m relay quartet of Shane Harris, Wayne Williams, Kevon White, and Ahmed Galal broke the school record and advanced to the IC4A final, with a time of 41.57.
- Harris,Williams, White, and Galal also moved on to the IC4A 4x200m final with a run of 1:27.90.
- The women's 4x200m team consisting of: Chinque Thompson, Nikki Fogarty, Mary Chimezie, and Courtney Warden set a school record of 1:40.23.
- The men's distance medley relay team consisting of Kyle Kelly, Randy Maldon, Alex Lopresti and Vann Moffett placed third in the second section of the college division and finished 8th overall in the event with a time of 9:57.65.
- The men's 4x200m team of Shane Harris, Kevon White, Wayne Williams, and Jason Marshall had a strong performance in the IC4A final taking fourth place with a school record breaking time of 1:26.65
- The men's 4x100m team consiting of Harris, Williams, White, and Galal finished eighth in the IC4A final with a time of 41.93.
- The women's 4x100m quartet: Kaylyn Gordon, Nikki Fogarty, Sarah Militano, and Mary Chimezie placed ninth in the ECAC final with a time of 1:41.29
