VESTAL, N.Y. – No. 3 Stony Brook softball fell to No. 1 Binghamton, 11-4, in an elimination game on Friday afternoon at the Bearcat Softball Complex. With the loss, the Seawolves' (18-29, 9-7 AE) 2017 season comes to an end.
Taylor Pechin (Harrington, Del.) led the way offensively, hitting a two-run home run in the sixth inning.
Jourdin Hering (Federal Way, Wash.) and
Chelsea Evans (Merced, Calif.) each drove in a run, as well.
Quoting Head Coach Megan T. Bryant
"We came out with good energy and Jourdin's [Hering]
leadoff at bat set a great tone for the first inning. We needed to sustain that effort. Making plays and limiting free bases are key at this time of the year. We are a very young team, and we will learn from this experience."
Notes
- Jourdin Hering (Federal Way, Wash.) led off the top of the first inning with a solo home run, her fourth homer of the 2017 season. The freshman belted the home run deep to left field on the eighth pitch of the at bat to begin the game.
