HOMECOMING EDITION – WEAR RED ALL WEEKEND!

Feeling Good

It was another perfect weekend for the Seawolves as our fall teams ran their combined conference record to 17-2-1, a remarkable 87.5 winning percentage.

There are a total of six fall championships that we are competing for, and I believe that we can win every one of them. Pick any program in the country and look at their combined record for football, volleyball, women's soccer and men's soccer. You will be hard-pressed to find a school that is experiencing anything close to what is happening at Stony Brook.

Homecoming is Here!

Welcome to Homecoming week at Stony Brook. We have a huge weekend in store beginning tomorrow night as we induct the Class of 2018 into the Stony Brook Athletics Hall of Fame.

Since reinstating the Hall of Fame in 2016 after a 10-year hiatus, we have celebrated the very best of Stony Brook. Tomorrow night we will honor another stellar class of seven which includes Los Angeles Angels pitcher Nick Tropeano, women's basketball great Jessica Smith and former football coach and longtime administrator Sam Kornhauser.

We look forward to honoring Nick, Jessica, Sam, Tyler Johnson (Baseball), Mel Walker (Men's Basketball), Sarah Boeckel (Volleyball) and David Bamiro (Football) at tomorrow night's ceremony as well as at Saturday's football game.

There are also several alumni events schedules so it's going to be an exciting weekend!

Football Makes a Statement

Going into last Saturday's football game at New Hampshire, I had a very positive feeling. I knew that our coaches had a strong game plan and I was confident that our team would be motivated following our loss at Towson the week before.

Despite injuries to several key players, our team did something that it had never done before: win a game at Wildcat Stadium. The best teams are able to handle adversity, and our football team responded by taking care of business with a 35-7 win over New Hampshire. The "Long Island Express" was without one of its engines as Jordan Gowins did not play due to injury. Fortunately, Donald Liotine shouldered the load with 163 yards on 32 carries on his way to CAA Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Saturday presents another test. Rhode Island is one of the most improved teams in the nation, and they want to make a statement this Saturday. We want to make a statement as well.

Homecoming is always our biggest crowd of the year, but we want to see a "Red Out" at LaValle Stadium. Get your tickets now by clicking here and make plans to join us on Saturday. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. but Seawolves Town will be rocking all day!

Men's Basketball

The America East Men's Basketball preseason poll was released yesterday and, once again, the league's coaches are sleeping on the Seawolves. I love it.

We were picked to finish fourth behind Vermont, Hartford and UMBC. I can somewhat understand because we have so many new players who will contribute, but we're going to be very good. Not surprisingly, Akwasi Yeboah was selected to the preseason all-conference team.

The two newcomers who are expected to make an early impact are sophomore transfer Jeff Otchere and freshman Miles Latimer. Jeff's length is something we have not had in my time here while Miles is extremely polished for a freshman.

It's going to be a great year. I can feel it.

Keep believing!

Warm regards,

Shawn
