Lacrosse is Back at LaValle!

21180

The men's lacrosse team will make its season debut on Saturday when Sacred Heart makes the trip across the Sound for a 1 p.m. start.

Jim Nagle's squad, which was selected to finish second in the preseason America East poll, jumped out to its best start in program history last year with a 4-0 mark. Following Saturday's opener, the team will play at Penn State before back-to-back home games against Brown and Hofstra. One date that you will want to circle on your calendar is March 10 when Virginia comes to town.

There is a quiet confidence about this group, which is led by a trio of defensive-minded captains in senior Kyle Abdellatif, junior Ryland Rees and sophomore Harrison Matsuoka. The coaches are also excited about the depth in goal, including freshman Ryan Erler who has been earning rave reviews. The offense is young but explosive so look for sophomores Tom Haun, Cory VanGinhoven and Wayne White to pick up where they left off a season ago.

Our guys have worked so hard and I can't wait to watch them on Saturday. Come join me at LaValle as a new year begins for Men's Lacrosse.

Congratulations to Stony Brook Alum and Super Bowl Champ Greg Delimitros

Nick Foles may be the reigning Super Bowl MVP, but Stony Brook alum Greg Delimitros played a vital role in the Philadelphia Eagles' Super Bowl title. Greg didn't play a single snap in Sunday's game but, as Director of Equipment Operations, it is safe to say that the Eagles couldn't play without him.

When our football team played at Temple in 2016, Greg led a small group of Stony Brook Athletics administrators on a behind-the-scenes tour of the Philadelphia Eagles practice facility. He was incredibly gracious with his time despite the fact that the Eagles had a home game the next day. A 2002 graduate, Greg served as head student equipment manager during his time at Stony Brook and just completed his 14th – and most exciting – season with Philadelphia.

How important is Greg to the Eagles organization? His personalized parking space outside of the facility was right next to head coach Doug Pederson.

LaValle Enhancements Continue with Turf Replacement

17802

The past year has seen us add 2,000 permanent seats and a restroom and concessions building in LaValle Stadium. The revitalization of LaValle will continue this summer as a new turf playing surface is installed in June. Given the amount of use that LaValle gets throughout the year between practices and competitions for our football, soccer and lacrosse programs, replacing the turf was a priority.

Replacing the turf will be beneficial for our student athletes as the playing surface loses its "bounce" over time. It also provides us with an opportunity to make some slight design changes that are in line with our branding initiative.

Women's Basketball Goes Pink on Sunday

Sunday will be a special day at Island Federal Credit Union Arena when Women's Basketball hosts the Third Annual Breast Cancer Survivors Brunch before taking on Maine at 2 p.m.

Thanks to our partners at Stony Brook Medicine and A World of Pink, a special group of breast cancer survivors will come together for a pregame brunch before cheering on the Seawolves. The Survivors Game has become one of my favorite events of the year, and I never cease to be amazed by the strong women and their families who I get the opportunity to meet.

Our team will wear special pink uniforms and shoes, which were generously provided by A World of Pink founder Christine Guarino. Get your tickets now and be sure to wear pink this Sunday.
