Ten-Goal Run Pushes No. 16 Stony Brook Past Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Powered by a 10-goal run, the No. 16 Stony Brook women's lacrosse team topped a tough Penn State team on the road, 16-11, on Tuesday afternoon at Panzer Stadium.

Ally Kennedy (North Babylon, N.Y.) and Taryn Ohlmiller (Islip, N.Y.) were the main sources of offensive power for the Seawolves with Kennedy scoring six goals while Ohlmiller recorded a hat trick and added in four assists.

QUOTING HEAD COACH Joe Spallina
"This was an incredible road win for our team. This team has shown such character and perseverance after the start of the year and to come to a place like Penn State and have such a convincing win will go a long way for our confidence. We had a complete team effort on draws, offense and defense."

HIGHLIGHTS
  • With things tied up at 4-4 early on, Nicole Barretta (Exton, Pa.) broke the tie with 8:58 left in the first half before a lightning delay forced the game to a hold.

  • Penn State scored seven of the game's last nine goals but couldn't overcome its deficit.
  • Kennedy was once again unstoppable, scoring six goals and controlling a career-high 12 draws while adding in two ground balls and a caused turnover.
  • Ohlmiller backed her up with her seven-point performance (3G, 4A).
  • Sabrina Tabasso (Lower Merion, Pa.) earned three points on the day from two goals and one assist.
  • Kasey Mitchell (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and Barretta each netted a pair as well and Siobhan Rafferty (Long Beach, N.Y.) capped off the Seawolves' scoring with a goal.
