Lots of LAX in LaValle

24411

Today's blog will be brief because it's a big day on campus. As you may know, both the America East Men's and Women's Lacrosse tournaments are being played at LaValle Stadium as we speak.

This is the first year that both the men and women are playing their tournaments on the same days, which means that there are four games taking place today. The women, who used to play on Friday-Sunday, switched to the Thursday-Saturday format in order to give the selection committee more time to consider seeding. As you may be aware, our history with seeding has not been the most fortunate.

Our women took the first step toward their seventh-straight America East title by defeating UMBC earlier today by a score of 17-5. Ally Kennedy, who is unquestionably the league's most dynamic player, tallied 10 points with six goals and four assists in the win. We will play the winner of Albany-New Hampshire on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Tonight at 7, our men will take on UMBC as the top seed after clinching the America East outright regular season title. The guys were resilient in a lightning-delayed 12-10 win over Albany on Friday night and will look to keep the positive energy rolling tonight. Should the men win, they will play in the championship game on Saturday at noon.

Time to get two more rings this weekend! Come out and support the Seawolves at LaValle.

Outdoor Track and Field Championships

24413

Lacrosse isn't the only sport that will crown champions this weekend as the America East Track and Field Championships will be held in Albany.

I am so excited to watch our teams compete. This has been such a big year for both our men and women with countless school records falling. Vann Moffett is the reigning America East Track Performer of the Week after setting a school record in the 5000m at the Penn Relays. On the women's side, the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams set new records at the Penn Relays.

Good luck to all of our student-athletes competing this weekend!

Baseball and Softball Travel to Maine

24395

Baseball and softball will both make the trip north to take on Maine this weekend as the regular season winds down.

This is the last series for softball before next weekend's America East Tournament at Hartford. Baseball still has a non-conference series against Wagner next weekend and a final America East series at home against UMass Lowell on May 17-18.

Let's finish strong!

The Seawolves Edge

What does "organizational edge" mean to you?

This was the question that I posed to each member of our department earlier this week. In order for us to win at the highest level, we must find our edge. To achieve extraordinary results, we must be willing to be extraordinary.

We're having incredible success but we can do more. Our teams finished first in men's and women's soccer, volleyball, tennis, men's lacrosse and women's lacrosse. Men's basketball, men's cross country and women's cross country finished second. Football reached the NCAA Playoffs. One of our goals at the beginning of the year was to win the America East Commissioner's Cup, and we're in position to do just that.

Edge is what sets the great organizations and teams apart. It's what will allow us to beat Power 5 programs and win more championships.

More to come…

Keep believing!

Warm regards,

Shawn
