STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The No. 1-seeded Stony Brook women's lacrosse team will compete for its seventh-straight America East tournament championship on Saturday after topping No. 4-seeded UMBC, 17-5, in the semifinals.
The victory marked the team's 10th in a row and 10th game of the season scoring 15-plus goals.
QUOTING HEAD COACH Joe Spallina
"It's great for us to win and move on. I think that there are a lot of things we can take from this game. I think in playoff time and the postseason we have a different set of emotions. There's players realizing that this could be the last time they take the field if things don't break a certain way. There's not a next-schedule game, you have to win one to earn one so I think players sometimes handle those expectations a little differently. I thought we came out tight and I thought we got our bearings straight about halfway through the first half."
