Together We Transform Thursday – May 23, 2019
Congratulations to the Class of 2019!
It's cap and gown season at Stony Brook as Commencement ceremonies are set to take place on campus today and tomorrow for the Class of 2019. LaValle Stadium will once again serve as the home for tomorrow's Main Commencement.
One of our graduation day traditions is to host a breakfast for our seniors and their families. For our senior student-athletes, this is the culmination of their Stony Brook journey. From the moment that they set foot on campus, we talk about reaching the ultimate goal of earning their degree. Watching our student-athletes develop and find themselves throughout their time here is extremely rewarding, and I feel like a very proud parent when they finally cross the finish line.
My message to our graduating seniors is to that no matter where the road ahead takes you, Stony Brook will always be home. I am so excited to see what the future holds for the Class of 2019, and I will always there for them.
Six Seawolves Ready to Run at NCAA Track & Field Championships

This has been another tremendous year of growth for our track and field programs under the direction of Andy Ronan, Jason Headman and Howard Powell.
Six of our student-athletes qualified for the preliminary round of the NCAA Championships in Jacksonville, site of the East Regional. Amanda Stead (400m) and Courtney Warden (100m) will represent the women while Cameron Avery (10000m), Luke Coulter (800m) Vann Moffett (5000m) and Mike Watts (5000m) make up the men's qualifying quartet.
The meet begins today and will continue through Saturday. Let's go Seawolves!
Walkoff Win for Baseball in America East Tournament Opener

After claiming the America East regular season title and the top seed in this week's conference tournament in Binghamton, our baseball team is searching for the program's first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 2015.
We took a giant step toward that goal when Chris Hamilton crushed a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to cap a massive comeback in a 7-6 win today over UMass Lowell. You can read the recap on StonyBrookAthletics.com, but I was watching in my office when Chris hit the titanic shot and I think the entire campus heard my "YESSSSSSS!"
It was an incredible win, but there is more work to do. We remain in the winner's bracket and will play again tomorrow at 11.
With our team in Binghamton and unable to attend tomorrow's graduation, we held a small ceremony on Monday for our baseball seniors. It is a special group that wants to bring a title back to Long Island.
Up Next… Conference Meetings
Next week I will leave for CAA Football meetings in Florida before heading north to Saratoga Springs for America East meetings when I'm hoping to get my hands on some long-awaited hardware.
Keep believing!
Warm regards,

Shawn
