WEST HARTFORD, CONN.- Led by a stellar pitching performance by
Melissa Rahrich (Brighton, Colo.), the Stony Brook softball team took down UAlbany in the second round of the America East Tournament on Thursday. The Seawolves defeated the Great Danes by a score of 4-0.
Rahrich went all seven innings in the circle, striking out eight. With the win, the junior is now 18-11 in the circle on the season.

"Today's win was a great effort from our team from the opening pitch. We were ready and controlled the momentum. Mel threw a terrific game and our defense backed her up. We were productive offensively. I'm proud of our approach and fight."
SCORING SUMMARY
- The Seawolves scored a pair in the top of the first. After Jourdin Hering (Federal Way, Wash.) doubled and Katelyn Corr (Suffield, Conn.) walked, Rahrich brought home Hering on a RBI single making it 1-0.
- The inning continued after Taylor Pechin (Harrington, Del.) walked to load the bases, Jordyn Nowakowski (San Diego, Calif.) walked to force in a run making it 2-0.
- Stony Brook added two more runs in the top of the third. After Rahrich and Irene Rivera (Sylmar, Calif.) singled, Nowakowski walked to load the bases, Riley Craig (Thornton, Colo.) brought home Rahrich on a sac fly making it 3-0.
- Lindsey Osmer (Martinez, Calif.) then brought home Rivera on a RBI single making it 4-0.
- UAlbany had the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth with two outs, but Rahrich struck out the batter to end the inning.
NOTES
- Rahrich has pitched a total of 26 complete games so far this season.
- Rahrich also had a solid day at the plate going 3-4 with a RBI.

The Seawolves will take on #4 seeded UMBC in the third round of the tournament on Friday, May 9 at 11 am.
