Together We Transform Thursday – July 25, 2019

Focused on Football

24810

The 2019 season officially begins on Tuesday when the team reports for fall camp, and I could not be more ready.

We are in a position to take a significant step forward in the CAA and make a strong push in the playoffs. After two straight playoff seasons, there is a real understanding among the players as to what it takes to achieve success.

It all starts with the offseason training program. We have two outstanding athletic performance coaches for football, Vinny Cagliostro and Joel Lynch, who work under the guidance of Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Performance, George Greene. Our guys are stronger, faster and leaner. The numbers don't lie. Neither do the eyes.

When I look at the physical maturation of guys like Tyquell Fields, Keegan Henderson and Gavin Heslop (just to name three), it is easy to see that the hard work in the Dubin Family Athletic Performance Center is paying off.

The majority of our team has been on campus working out and taking classes throughout the summer. Our freshmen arrived for the second summer session, which started after the July 4 holiday, and have been getting acclimated to school and football. It is obvious that the recruiting efforts led by Coach Priore and Assistant Athletic Director for Player Personnel, Patrick Hatch, are paying huge dividends. We have also placed a heavy emphasis on recruiting talented local walk-ons, and we have some good ones who joined the team this summer.

Another observation is that our eight recruited transfers are really good. While I can't say for certain how many of them will start in the opener against Bryant, I do know that the coaches are thrilled with what they've seen thus far from the group.

Now comes the fun part. We believe in what we are building and – despite the fact that we were picked to finish sixth in the CAA preseason poll – know that we have the talent to win a conference championship.

We need everyone to come out and support the team at home this year. Please call the ticket office at 631-632-9653 and get your season and individual game tickets today. Be sure to check out our new Seawolves On Demand program (ADD LINK) that allows you to get one ticket to all football, basketball and lacrosse games for only $15 per month.

Les Seawolves vont en Europe!

24762

Two weeks from Sunday, the men's basketball team will travel across the Atlantic for a 10-day trip to Spain and France.

The NCAA allows teams to take an international trip once every four years. A foreign tour is among the most memorable experiences that our student-athletes will have at Stony Brook, and the last time that we took one, the year ended with us going to the NCAA Tournament!

Thanks to the generous support of one of our donors, the trip to Barcelona, Valencia and Paris is completely paid for through private funds. The team will play three games in Europe and have the opportunity to see sights such as the Sagrada Familia Basilica in Barcelona and the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

Although the games are exhibitions against semi-pro and club teams, they will provide the first chances to see our team play in a competitive environment. Our guys are very excited and extremely grateful for the opportunity to travel to Europe. We will share the sights and sounds of the trip so be sure to follow along on social media.

The road to March begins in Barcelona!

Stony Brook 20th Anniversary Team

The first part of the 20th Anniversary Team as selected by our fans was revealed today with the second half coming tomorrow.

There are so many deserving athletes, and we have plans to celebrate them and the outstanding moments of the past 20 years. Now it's time to create some more memories!

Keep believing!

Warm regards,

Shawn
