STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- Stony Brook Athletics is proud to announce the implementation of the new Seawolves Training Table designed to provide Stony Brook student-athletes with a new competitive edge in performance nutrition. The training table, located in Wolves Den of Island Federal Arena, made its debut on September 16 and is open Monday thru Thursday. The new venture became a reality through strong partnerships on campus, including the staff at CulinArt, who worked with the department's nutrition team to develop menus that will fuel optimum recovery and potential for Stony Brook student-athletes.
"We are driven each day to deliver a first-class experience to each of our student-athletes, and performance nutrition is one way that we can deliver on that," Director of Athletics
Shawn Heilbron said. "The addition of the Seawolves training table is a significant step forward for our department."
The training table was a key element of the department's
Together We Transform five-year plan that was launched in 2015.
"During the season, it can be hard to get food after practice with such a tight schedule. The training table is a great and convenient way to get fast and nutritious food," said
Elijah Olaniyi, junior guard on the Stony Brook men's basketball team. "Having the training table is something me and my teammates have taken full advantage of and can't wait to see what comes next!"
The meals are designed specifically for the demands of Division I collegiate athletes, featuring food that is high in protein, complex carbohydrates, and loaded with vitamins and minerals necessary for outstanding results. Menus will rotate daily to include theme nights such as Taco Tuesday and will serve as a supplement to the already existing fueling station which provides snacks, Acai bowls and smoothies for the student-athletes' on-the-go lifestyle.
"The Seawolves training table is a game changer for our department," said
George Greene, the Associate Athletic Director of High Performance and Competitive Success at Stony Brook. "Our team did an amazing job putting together this exciting new initiative to benefit our student-athletes. A big thank you goes out to the staff at CulinArt for making this vision come alive."
