FAIRFIELD, CONN. — The Stony Brook women's tennis team continues to sweep along.
The Seawolves debuted new doubles combinations on Friday morning at Sacred Heart and the chemistry had instant success, earning head coach
Gary Glassman's club a third consecutive 7-0 victory.
"We saw some really exciting things," Glassman said. "Overall, the ladies did an excellent job maintaining their focus from the first point to match point."
Jamie Wei and
Mathilde Sreeves teamed for the first time at the No. 1 doubles slot and coasted to a 6-2 win. And
Nolwenn Cardoso and Loretto Villalba-Rubio swept their opposition, starting the day right with a 6-0 win.
All six singles victories came in straight sets, with Rubio joining
Kristine Theys as the two student-athletes who didn't allow their opponents to take a game.
They improved to 5-1 in singles play this season, while Cardoso and
Maria Pinto Ribeiro are each at 3-0 since switching to the No. 3 and No. 2 singles positions, respectively. Rubio is now 3-0 in her No. 6 spot.
The Seawolves remain in Connecticut on Saturday night to face Fairfield, looking for win No. 4 in a row.
"We'll need this same focus we had today," Glassman said.
