TO! Taryn Ohlmiller Tallies 6 Goals as Women's Lacrosse Tops No. 15 USC

STONY BROOK, N.Y. — The Stony Brook women's lacrosse team entered the top five in the IWLCA poll on Monday.

A day later, the No. 5 Seawolves continued to roll.

Stony Brook opened the game with four straight goals and never looked back en route to a 15-3 win against No. 15 USC on Tuesday afternoon at drizzly Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.

Taryn Ohlmiller produced a career-high-matching six goals. Ally Kennedy added a hat trick, while Kaeli Huff and Jaden Hampel had two goals apiece.

"TO was QB1 today," coach Joe Spallina said.

Huff, a graduate transfer from USC, played against sister Kelsey Huff, the captain for the Women of Troy.

"The two of us were obviously talking the whole time up until this game, saying how we actually have never played against each other, which is crazy," Huff said. "We've been on the same side  — I'm 22 now — for 22 years. It was definitely different. But we're both excited. We've been battling with each other since we were walking, basically."

Fueled by success by Charlotte Verhulst, Stony Brook won 10 of 13 draw controls in the first half, which helped fuel a 10-2 halftime lead.

Goalie Kameron Halsall made six saves before handing duties over to Hayley Hunt with the Seawolves leading 15-3 and 10:22 remaining.

Ohlmiller also had tallied six goals in last year's season-opening victory at Syracuse.

Stony Brook (2-1) has won the last four meetings against USC, which traditionally has defended zone, but which played man-to-man on Tuesday.

The game was added last week after USC (1-1) had a game against New Hampshire canceled that otherwise would have opened its East Coast trip.

The Seawolves face their third ranked opponent of the early season on Saturday at 10 a.m. when they oppose No. 2 Syracuse inside the Carrier Dome.
