Box Score FAIRFIELD, Conn. — The Stony Brook women's tennis team opened its long-awaited season on a high note.
The Seawolves topped Sacred Heart, 4-3, in the program's first match since Feb. 29, 2019.
Mathilde Sreeves clinched the match with a 7-5, 7-5 victory over Ciara O'Toole at third singles.
Sasha Bekirova, Lizzie Pam and
Chandrika Joshi also earned singles victories.
Joshi, a freshman from Bangalore, India, earned a 6-1, 7-5 victory at sixth singles in her collegiate debut.
"It was great to finally compete again," coach
Gary Glassman said. "The entire equad was super-excited, and you could actually see the improvement from the beginning of the match until the end. Mathilde struggled early to find her game, but she fought so hard and refused to back down. Ultimately it was the type of desire that made the difference in a very close match."
Stony Brook returns to action next Friday when it travels to New Jersey to face Seton Hall.
