Ally Kennedy, Taryn Ohlmiller Fuel Women's Lacrosse, Turn Back UAlbany

STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Tewaaraton Award contenders Ally Kennedy and Taryn Ohlmiller led the way on Saturday.

Kennedy tallied six goals and Ohlmiller matched a career high with seven assists as the fifth-ranked Stony Brook women's lacrosse team defeated UAlbany, 18-11, at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.

The Seawolves found themselves in a tighter America East battle than is customary. They nonetheless prevailed for a 46th straight time against a conference opponent.

Siobhan Rafferty opened the scoring only 35 seconds into the game and Stony Brook led the rest of the way.

The Seawolves built a seven-goal lead on Kennedy's goal on a free-position shot while a man up late in the first half. However, UAlbany answered with four straight goals spanning the two periods to close within 10-7.

Rayna Sabella's goal with 23:02 remaining then halted the Great Danes' momentum. Stony Brook eventually reopened as much as a seven-goal advantage in the second half.

Rafferty added a hat trick.

Ohlmiller's seven assists matched her career high, previously set against UAlbany in 2018.

Kennedy's six goals fell one shy of her career high, set against UAlbany in 2019. She had a late free-position shot with a chance to match the total on Saturday, but hit the post.

"Everyone is getting open for me. So it just makes it easy," Ohlmiller said.

Said Kennedy: "Our offense is finally starting to come together. Little by little through each game we're showing flashes on greatness."

Stony Brook (6-2, 3-0 AE) next hosts Hofstra on Thursday at 5 p.m.
