BRONX, N.Y. — The Stony Brook track & field team last competed 377 days ago, at the ECAC/IC4A Indoor Championship. On Saturday at Icahn Stadium, the Seawolves successfully got back to action.
Stony Brook accumulated five individual victories along with four relays and six second-place finishers at the Fordham Invitational.
The Seawolves dominated multiple races on the men's side.
Patrick Abel earned a win in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.14.
Matthew Cappock finished right behind him, placing second in 22.55.
The Seawolves also went 1-2 in the 400m, with
Richmond Boateng (49.71) finishing first and Aleksandar Zdravkovic (50.09) placing second.
Stony Brook's other two individual wins came from a pair of well-established veterans.
Luke Coulter won the 800m with a time of 1:53.22, and
Vann Moffett was victorious in the 1500m at 3:47.46.
Aiden Smyth (3:51.07) and
Ryan Dearie (3:55.30) placed second and fourth behind Moffett.
The team also got strong finishes from
Anthony Urbancik, who placed second (11.06) in the 100m and
Greg Mangarelli, who earned third in the 5000m (14:33.62).
The Seawolves earned two relay wins as well. Cappock, Abel, Urbancik and Boateng earned first in the 4x100m (42.86), and finished first in the 4x400m (3:18.96) with Zdravkovic replacing Urbancik.
In field events,
Sebastian Ramos placed second in the javelin at 47.55m. Gavin DaVanzo (6.33m) and Kanes (6.24m) earned fourth and fifth in the long jump.
On the women's side, Stony Brook got a win in the 4x100m and the 4x400m. A quartet of
Jaelyn Davis,
Dana Cerbone,
Nadja Ashley and
Amanda Stead crossed the finish line in 47.31 in the 4x100m, while finishing in 3:58.35 in the 4x100m with
Erica Marriott substituted in for Davis.
Alexandria Earle tied for first place in the high jump at 1.58m.
Other strong performances on the track included Stead's 24.69 finish in the 200m, putting her second. Ashley finished fourth in that event at 25.30.
Cerbone earned a third-place finish in the 100m with a time of 12.32.
Fiona McLoughlin also earned a third-place finish, running the 1500m in 4:39.03. In the 400m hurdles, Siara Guevera finished third at 1:10.81.
The Seawolves return to action on Friday, April 2 when they travel to Virginia for the Colonial Relays.
