TOWSON, Md. — Last year's freshman phenom combined with this year's freshman phenom to help lift the Stony Brook women's lacrosse team to victory on Sunday.
The No. 5 Seawolves swept their Maryland weekend with a 10-8 victory against 16th-ranked Towson behind two goals apiece from sophomore
Kailyn Hart and freshman
Jaden Hampel.
After
Ally Kennedy's goal evened the score in the first half, Hart and Hampel each contributed a pair of goals as Stony Brook built a 6-2 lead.
Towson answered with three consecutive goals to open the second half, but the Seawolves did not relinquish the lead.
Siobhan Rafferty's goal halted Stony Brook's second-half scoring drought with 16:29 remaining to reopen a two-goal lead.
Hampel finished with her second career hat trick.
"It was a tough, gritty road win," coach Joe Spallina said. "I absolutely love the way we played defense today. Efforts like today go a very long way in preparing us for playoff time. Towson is an excellent team that makes you earn everything. Our team is getting better every time out and starting to stack wins."
Stony Brook was coming off a victory against UMBC on Friday in the America East opener in Baltimore.
The Seawolves step back into America East action next Sunday when they host UMass Lowell at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.
