STONY BROOK, N.Y. — The Stony Brook women's tennis team honored seniors Lizzie Pam and
Nolwenn Cardoso before Saturday's match. The Seawolves then claimed an impressive 6-1 victory against Fordham at University Courts.
Sasha Bekirova,
Mathilde Sreeves, Cardoso and
Loreto Villalba-Rubio all posted singles victories — all but Bekirova in three sets.
"This was an excellent team win," coach
Gary Glassman said. "Fordham is an extremely talented squad. We had to play and compete really well to come away with the victory. This will serve us well as we prepare for the MVC Championship."
Short players, Fordham did not field a sixth singles or third doubles.
Pam has competed internationally in countries including Morocco, Egypt and South Africa while representing Nigeria. And she is a two-year captain.
Cardoso, a mainstay in singles and doubles throughout her four-year collegiate career, won the Missouri Valley Conference fall doubles tournament as a sophomore. And she closed last year on a four-match winning streak.
Stony Brook hosts a final regular-season match on Sunday at noon against Binghamton before heading to the Missouri Valley Conference team championship.
