SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Stony Brook women's tennis team took tournament host Missouri State down to the wire in the Missouri Valley Conference Team Championship semifinals on Saturday.
Unfortunately for the second-seeded Seawolves, their season ended with a 4-3 defeat against third-seeded Missouri State.
Jamie Wei at first singles and
Sasha Bekirova at second singles had consecutively delivered wins to even the score at three matches apiece.
And all eyes then turned to the lone remaining match:
Loreto Villalba-Rubio against Alyson Piskulic at fifth singles.
Piskulic prevailed, 7-5, 6-3, to send Missouri State to the finals.
For the Seawolves,
Nolwenn Cardoso picked up a win at fourth singles earlier.
Stony Brook had lost the doubles point.
The Seawolves completed their season 7-4 overall.
