BETHLEHEM, Pa. — From start to finish, the Stony Brook tennis program was able to control the match at Lehigh on Saturday afternoon, securing its first win of the 2022 spring campaign by a 6-1 decision over the Mountain Hawks.
The squad controlled in doubles, with
Mathilde Sreeves and Loreto Villalba Rubio taking a 6-3 win in the first position and
Chandrika Joshi and
Kristine Theys teaming up to take No. 2 Doubles by a 6-1 decision. Sara Medved and
Aradhana Jayakrishna won by default in the final spot.
Heading into singles play, three of the opening frames went into tiebreaks, with Sreeves being the only one to secure the first-set win. That would not phase the Seawolves, as the two who dropped the inaugural frame, Joshi and Theys, would rally to take the second and third to each earn a point.
Medved had a controlling match, dropping just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 victory, while Sreeves earned a third-set victory by 6-3 to keep the Seawolves in control of the night.
With the win, Stony Brook improves to 1-2 on the year.
