NEW YORK CITY – Stony Brook tennis finished its weekend competing in the 2023 ITA DI Women's Northeast (1) Regional Championships from the Milstein Family Tennis Center on the campus of Columbia University on Sunday.
Stony Brook won 3-of-4 matches in the first round of the regional competition, as sophomore
Kristi Boro, senior
Chandrika Joshi, and freshman
Mia Palladino all surged to victories in the first round, with none of the trio conceding more than two games in a single set.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Palladino swept both of her first-round games, with a 6-0, 6-0 double bagel victory.
- Boro won a pair of 6-2 games while Joshi won on a 6-0, 6-2 scoreline to wrap up a 3-1 SBU record in the first round.
- Joshi came closest in the second round (round of 64), falling in two hard-fought 7-5 games. Palladino and Boro also battled in close sets but fell in the second round.
- Freshman Elena Lobo-Corral rounded out Stony Brook's lineup in the competition.
- Stony Brook was unable to come away with a doubles victory, falling in both first-round matches.

"Regionals is always a great chance to see the level we need to be competitive at the top of the region," said head coach Thiago Duailby. "We picked up some good wins in the strongest tournament we've played in the fall. Our players competing put in great effort and continued to show improvements in the doubles game."

Doubles games were played up to eight, in the win-by-two format.
