Tennis Wins First-Ever CAA Match at Monmouth

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. –  The Stony Brook tennis team (4-3, 1-0 CAA) knocked off the Monmouth Hawks, 5-2, on the road on Saturday night, picking up its first-ever CAA victory.
 
The Seawolves were introduced to CAA play with a win.
 
Stony Brook fared well in its doubles matches, sweeping the point. Freshman Kristi Boro and senior Mathilde Sreeves won their doubles match, 7-5. Senior Kristine Theys and freshman Debby Mastrodima won their doubles match, 6-3.
 
The Seawolves picked up four singles victories in the match. After winning their doubles match, Boro and Sreeves both swept their respective singles matches. Graduate Loreto Villalba-Rubio and junior Chandrika Joshi went the distance in their respective singles matches and both came away with wins.

Brezanin (MON) def. Mastrodima (SBU), 1-6, 3-6
Sreeves (SBU) def. Pax (MON), 6-2, 6-3

"This was quite the introduction to CAA play," head coach Gary Glassman said. "It was an extremely intense and hard-fought match. The ladies did a great job of keeping their focus and holding their nerves tonight."
 
NEXT UP
Stony Brook will hit the court again on Friday, March 3, when it heads north to take on the Bryant Bulldogs on the road. The match will begin at 12:45 p.m.
