WEST POINT, N.Y. –  The Stony Brook tennis team opened its 2023 spring season with a, 4-3, victory over the St. Bonaventure Bonnies on Saturday afternoon at a neutral site at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
 
Freshman Kristi Boro, senior Mathilde Sreeves, graduate Loreto Villalba-Rubio, and junior Chandrika Joshi each earned a pair of wins on the day, with Boro and Sreeves combining for a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles before taking straight set victories in their respective single matches.
 
Senior Kristine Theys led the way with a straight-set victory in No. 1 singles. Rubio and Joshi followed with straight-set wins in No. 3 and No. 6 singles, respectively. 
 
Villalba-Rubio and Joshi combined for a 6-1 win in No. 3 doubles.

"The ladies played some excellent doubles today and that turned out to be a crucial factor," head coach Gary Glassman said. "It was a tough match all the way around. We definitely got better today, and moving forward- we need to be more consistent in singles."

Stony Brook will hit the court again on Sunday, Feb. 5, as it takes on the Army Black Knights. The match will begin at 4 p.m.
