SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Stony Brook tennis team (5-4) ended their weekend with a victory after defeating Rhode Island University 4-3.

With head coach Gary Glassman sending out new combinations in doubles today, it proved to be pivotal for the Seawolves. The squad was victorious in two of the three matches in doubles, with back-to-back dominant performances.

First, the tandem of freshman Kristi Boro and graduate student Loreto Villalba-Rubio got the Seawolves going in the doubles match by defeating Cvackova/Herrman, 6-4. Then, the duo of senior Kristine Theys and freshman Debby Mastrodima gave the team another victory after defeating Rajan/Grnja, 6-2.

In singles, junior Chandrika Joshi picked up her second victory of the weekend after defeating Rajan in a three-set thriller. After dropping the second-set to tie the match at a set each, Joshi took command from start to finish, taking the final-set 6-1. Senior Mathilde Sreeves and freshman Debby Mastrodima put up impressive performances in their single matches, as they were both victories in straight sets.
