Tennis Storms Back From Early Deficit To Defeat NJIT

BlUE POINT, N.Y.- After falling behind early, the Stony Brook tennis team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to secure a big 4-3 win over NJIT. The Seawolves' comeback was fueled by clutch singles play as four wins propelled Stony Brook to its third straight victory.

The Highlanders won the first and third sets in doubles play, earning the point. Following a loss in the opening singles match, the Seawolves rallied, winning four of the next five matches for a decisive comeback victory.

Stony Brook picked up wins in singles play from Elena Lobo-Corral, Lorin Tilipman, Kristi Boro, and Mila Charles. Charles's win in the final match was the deciding factor, as she clutched up to win a three-set thriller.

  • Palladino/Boro (SBU) def. Salvi/Babkova (NJIT), 7-6(3)
  • Aydin/Menendez Alvarez (NJIT) def. Medved/Bruu-Syversen (SBU), 6-4

SINGLES RESULTS
  • Wipfli (NJIT) def. Palladino (SBU), 6-3, 7-6 (8)
  • Lobo-Corral (SBU) def. Menendez Alvarez (NJIT), 6-4, 7-5
  • Tilipman (SBU) def. Salvi (NJIT), 7-5, 7-5
  • Cocero (NJIT) def. Bruu-Syversen (SBU), 6-2, 6-2
  • Boro (SBU) def. Babkova (NJIT), 0-6, 6-3, Won by player retirement.
  • Charles (SBU) def. Aydin (NJIT), 1-6, 7-6(3), 6-2

UP NEXT 

The Seawolves are back in action tomorrow for the Battle of Long Island against Hofstra. The match is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. and will take place at Eastern Athletic of Blue Point.
