Kaboom! Seawolves Torpedo Navy, 77-63
Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook men's basketball team (7-7) missed only three field goals in the second half and shot 68 percent for the game as the Seawolves earned a convincing 77-63 victory over Navy (7-6) on Saturday afternoon at the USB Sports Complex. The Midshipmen raced to an 11-4 lead to open the game as the Seawolves missed their first four shots. The Navy lead grew to nine, 17-8, with 10:54 remaining in the first half. But Stony Brook used an 18-9 run over the next 7:15 to knot the game at 26-26. Leon Brisport (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored eight points during the stretch en route to a game-high 12 at the half, while Josh Little (Rocky Hill, Conn.) nailed two three-pointers. The Seawolves finally pulled ahead for the first time at 30-28 with just over two minutes remaining, and D. J. Munir's (Providence, R.I.) layup gave Stony Brook a 35-32 lead at the break. Both teams had the hot hand in the first stanza, as Stony Brook and Navy each shot 13-of-22 from the field for a blistering 59 percent. Stony Brook continued its hot shooting in the second half and trailed for the last time at 43-41 with 16 minutes remaining. Little's three-pointer 30 seconds later started a 10-0 Seawolves run, and USB never trailed again. The Midshipmen momentarily stopped the bleeding with a Michael Cunningham layup at the 12:50 mark, but Stony Brook was off and running again, outscoring Navy 21-9 over the next nine minutes to earn its biggest advantage of the game at 72-54. Scott Long narrowed the lead with two field goals in the final minute, but the Seawolves held on to win, 77-63. Stony Brook's torrid shooting in the second stanza proved to be the difference, as the Seawolves made 12 of 15 field goals (80 percent) and limited Navy to just 11-of-25 shooting. USB was also hot from three-point territory, nailing 5-of-7 for the game. D. J. Munir dished a career-high 10 assists and scored 16 points, while Jairus McCollum (Mt. Holly, N.J.) was a perfect 5-of-5 from the field en route to his 15 points. Little chipped in with 14, connecting on 4-of-5 three-pointers. Brisport led all scorers with 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Chris Williams led Navy with 17 points, while Demond Shepard and John Williams each had 10. The win gives Stony Brook seven victories on the season, which surpasses last season's total of six in the program's first year of Division I competition. USB returns to the court on Monday, Jan. 8, as it travels to face Cleveland State.
Stony Brook Loses Heartbreaker To Rider In Overtime, 70-69
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. (AP) - Jonathan McClark hit a lay-up at the end of regulation to tie the game and then scored Rider's final point on a foul shot in overtime to give the Broncs a 70-69 win over Stony Brook on Wednesday night. McClark finished with 21 points and pulled down 13 rebounds for Rider (7-4). D.J. Munir led Stony Brook (6-7) with 19 points. Rider led 47-39 with 6:05 left in the second half before Stony Brook hit five 3-pointers on the way to a 59-57 lead. McClark tied it with his lay-up at the buzzer and Rider never trailed again as Mike Scott hit a 3-pointer to start the overtime. Scott had 11 points and Mario Porter added 17 for Rider. Josh Little hit five 3-pointers and finished with 17 points.

Seawolves Snap Skid Against Lehigh, 65-49
Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook (8-6) had three players score in double figures, led by Sherry Jordan's (Stone Mountain, Ga.) 20, and the Seawolves ended a four-game losing streak with a 65-49 victory over Lehigh (7-6) at the USB Sports Complex Saturday. The Seawolves extended their home winning streak to 10 games dating back to last season. Jordan's jumper with 10:18 to go gave the Seawolves the lead for good at 41-40. The Seawolves used an 18-6 lead over the next 6:21 to take a 59-46 lead and built the advantage to as many as 16. Jordan scored six of her 20 during the run as the Seawolves sealed the game. Stony Brook built a 33-26 lead 2:18 into the second half on Maggie Triggs' (Essex Junction, Vt.) fast break jumper. But Lehigh used a 10-1 run to take a 36-34 lead with 14:33 to go as Anne Tierney and Gina Zang each scored four points. Tierney ended with a team-high 16 points and Zang had 13. Tierney also registered 15 rebounds - a game-high. Stony Brook tied the school record for fewest turnovers in a game with 11 and forced the Mountain Hawks into 23. Kelli Cofield (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Jill George (Manchester, N.H.) each had 10 points for the Seawolves. Sophomore point guard Jessica Burch (Sunnyside, N.Y.) had five assists and five steals. The Seawolves improved to 7-1 against Patriot League teams and tied the series with Lehigh at 1-1.

Munir had a stellar week for the Seawolves, averaging 17. 5 points and eight assists in two games this week. Munir set a new career-high with 10 assists against Navy on Saturday to go along with his 16 points. In the Seawolves' overtime loss to Rider on Wednesday, Munir scored 19 points and dished six assists.
