Brisport's 30 points leads Seawolves over Binghamton
Binghamton, N.Y. (AP) - Leon Brisport (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 30 points and had 10 rebounds to lead Stony Brook to an 81-62 victory over Binghamton Saturday. Stony Brook (9-8) led 42-32 at the half, and Brisport took control in the second half by scoring 17 points. Brisport, a senior who transferred from Providence College, scored seven of the team's first 10 points as Stony Brook took a 52-39 lead with 16:57 to play. Binghamton (8-9) didn't pull closer than 13 points in the second half. Junior Michael Wright led Binghamton with 18 points.
Seawolves Use Big Second Half to Defeat Medgar Evers
Stony Brook, N.Y. - After a slow first half, the Stony Brook men's basketball team, playing its fourth game in eight days, outscored Medgar Evers 50-27 in the second half to earn an 81-55 victory over the Cougars on Thursday evening at the USB Sports Complex. The Seawolves (8-8) never trailed in the contest, but managed just a three-point lead at the half, 31-28, thanks to subpar shooting. After pulling ahead 15-6 on Rob Hartman's (Jackson Heights, N.Y.) three-pointer, the Cougars went on a 14-5 run to pull within two with 5:54 remaining. An Anthony Henderson trey brought them to within three at the break. Stony Brook shot just 12-29 in the half for 41 percent, but the Seawolves also held the Cougars to just 34 percent shooting. Medgar Evers (6-8) cut the Seawolves edge to just one when Steven Chase scored a layup to begin the half, and again two minutes later on Henry Richards' jumper. The 33-32 score at the 18:23 mark would be as close as the Cougars would get. Stony Brook scored the next seven points, four by leading scorer Leon Brisport, who finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds. The Seawolves used a 20-4 run over the next six minutes to extend the lead to double figures for the first time. The lead reached 20 at the 6:41 mark on J.B. Bennett's (Shirley, N.Y.) layup. After shooting poorly in the first half, the Seawolves rebounded with 12-19 shooting in the second stanza, while Medgar Evers managed to connect on only 10-27 field goals. The final margin of 26 was Stony Brook's largest lead of the game. Brisport notched his seventh double-double of the season, scoring in double figures for the 11th straight game. Joakim Eriksson (Ostersund, Sweden) had 11 points, while Jairus McCollum (Mt. Holly, N.J.) and Josh Little (Rocky Hill, Conn.) each chipped in with 10. Little also dished five assists, and Rob Hartman pulled down six rebounds. Medgar Evers' Anthony Henderson led all scorers with 16 points, and Steven Chase had 12 for the Cougars.
Seawolves Fall To Cleveland State, 70-53
Cleveland, Ohio - Jamaal Harris scored 20 points and Theo Dixon had 13 points and five assists as Cleveland State beat Stony Brook 70-53 Monday night for its fifth straight win. Kevin Ross added 12 points for Cleveland State (10-6) and Jermaine Robinson had 10. Leon Brisport and D.J. Munir (Providence, R.I.) had 10 points apiece for Stony Brook (7-8). The Vikings tied the game at 15-15 halfway through the first half on the first of two free throws by Harris and his second put Cleveland State ahead for good. Back-to-back baskets by Andrew Williams and Tahric Gosley kicked off a 12-2 run that put the Vikings ahead 28-17 with 4:24 to play in the first half. After Munir responded with a 3-point shot to make it 28-20 with 4:09 to play, Dixon hit a jumper and Ross had a layup to begin a 10-2 run to push the Vikings lead to 38-22 at halftime. The Seawolves got within 14 twice in the second half, the last at 55-41 with 10:05 left on Terrill Ware's (Buffalo, N.Y.) layup. Gosley then hit a dunk for the Vikings to kick off a 7-0 run to make it 62-41 with 3:44 to play.

Curse Continues for Seawolves at Albany with 83-59 Loss
Albany, N.Y. - Jess McGinlay tallied a career-high 29 points and Albany (4-13) led from start to finish in its 83-59 blowout of Stony Brook (10-7) Saturday night at the Recreation & Convocation Center. It was the seventh straight loss at Albany for the Seawolves - who have never won at the RACC. Albany has now won 11 of the last 12 meetings between the teams. The Great Danes began the game with an 11-0 run, holding the Seawolves scoreless for the first 4:03. Maggie Triggs' (Essex Junction, Vt.) jumper got Stony Brook on the board and started a 13-5 run that brought the Pack within 18-13. It is the closest they would get the rest of the night. Albany closed the first half with a 25-10 run and led 43-23 at the break. McGinlay scored 18 during the first 20 minutes as Albany hit 18-of-28 field goals (.643). Jill George (Manchester, N.H.) had 10 at the half and ended with 14 points. Stony Brook got as close as 51-37 with 13:04 left, but got no closer. Albany led by as many as 22 points late in the second half. Sherry Jordan (Stone Mountain, Ga.) scored 23 points to lead Stony Brook - 17 coming in the second half. Liz Tucker and Dawn DiMicco were also in double figures for the Danes with 14 and 16 points, respectively. Stony Brook - 1-5 on the road this season - suffered its worst loss since November 20, 1999, when it fell to Rider, 85-58.
Trio Leads Seawolves To Win Over Maine, 68-57
Stony Brook, NY - Jessica Burch (Sunnyside, N.Y.) scored 17 points and had 10 steals, one of three players in double figures, as Stony Brook (10-6) beat Maine (4-10) Thursday night at the USB Sports Complex, 68-57. It was the fourth win in a row for Stony Brook and its 11th straight inside the USB Sports Complex. The Seawolves jumped out to a 17-3 lead and took a 29-22 advantage into the locker room at intermission thanks to Burch's 11 points. The Black Bears came out on fire in the second half, using a 10-0 run in the first 2:38 of the second stanza to take their first lead of the game at 32-29. Freshman Heather Ernest started the run with a jumper - two of a team-high 15 points for the Bears. She also had 10 rebounds, registering her eighth double-double of the season. Melissa Heon ended the run with a steal and lay-up and with a three-pointer. She finished with 10 points. Jill George's jumper got the Seawolves the lead back for good just over a minute later at 33-32. George tied her career-high with 17 points and also had six rebounds. With Maine trailing 35-34 with 14:33 left, the Seawolves used a 10-4 run to build a 45-38 lead . Maine got as close as 51-48 with 3:01 left on Julie Veilleux's free throw, but would get no closer the rest of the way. Veilleux had 11 points for the Bears. The Black Bears held Stony Brook's leading scorer Sherry Jordan without a point in the first half. The freshman exploded for 15 in the second half. She also had 12 rebounds, seven assists and six steals. It was her sixth double-double of the season. Burch recorded 10 steals on the night - breaking the school record of 9 she tied twice. She now has a team-high 52 on the year. Maine lost for the fourth straight time.
Stony Brook Tops Cornell, 82-73
ITHACA, N.Y. - Freshman Sherry Jordan scored 31 points, the second straight game an opposing player has scored over 30 points against Cornell, to lead the Stony Brook women's basketball team to a 82-73 victory over the Cornell Big Red tonight at Newman Arena. For Cornell, it was the first home loss of the season and the fourth in a row. A basket by freshman Lauren Kilduff tied the score at 56-56 for Cornell with 9:21 remaining in regulation, but the Seawolves responded with a 13-3 run to take a commanding advantage. A three-pointer by Jordan and consecutive lay-ups by Jill George helped break any momentum the Big Red had gained in its rally. Cornell got the deficit to six points with under one minute remaining, but it couldn't get any closer. The first half was a battle between Cornell and Jordan. Stony Brook led 44-40 at halftime, thanks to 21 points by Jordan. She shot 8-for-9 in the half and made all five free throws. The rest of her teammates shot 8-for-17 and made three of four free throws. Cornell's balanced offense wasn't enough for the second straight game. On Saturday, Bucknell's Vicki Quimby poured in 33 points in a 74-57 win for the Bison. Senior Jen Linker led Cornell with 17 points, thanks to 10-for-12 shooting from the free throw line. Sophomore Katie Romey had 12 points while juniors Do Stevens and Breean Walas each had 11 points. Linker and Stevens each had five rebounds while Linker, Walas, Stevens and freshman Karen Force tied for the team lead with three assists. George ended the game with 15 points for Stony Brook while junior Kelli Cofield (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had a team high nine rebounds.

Brisport led the Seawolves in scoring all three games, topping off the week with a 30-point, 10-rebound performance at Binghamton, marking the first time in 10 years that a player has scored 30 points more than once in a season. Brisport has scored in double figures in 12 straight games and has posted a double-double eight times. He is averaging 17 points and nine rebounds on the year.
