Yoshiyuki Shiratori, ATC, CSCS has been named Assistant Athletic Trainer at Stony Brook University, Director of Athletics Jim Fiore announced today. Shiratori will join the Stony Brook athletic training staff led by Kathy Koshansky. He will begin on January 15 working with the women's lacrosse team while also assisting the staff with other athletic training duties.
Shiratori arrives at Stony Brook after working since September of 2003
as the Assistant Athletic Trainer at Niagara University. At Niagara, he
served as the primary athletic trainer for the women's hockey team and helped with prevention, care and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for all Purple Eagles athletic teams.
"Yoshi is an outstanding young professional and highly recommended by colleagues in the sports medicine discipline," said Koshansky. "With his enthusiasm and knowledge he will quickly become an integral member of the athletic training team, allowing continuity of quality health care for the Stony Brook student athlete."
Prior to Niagara, Shiratori served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer
at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. for two years. While
at George Washington, Shiratori served as the athletic trainer for women's soccer, women's volleyball and men's and women's tennis, as well as
performed secondary duties with men's crew and men's and women's squash.
Shiratori is a 2001 graduate of the University at Buffalo, with a B.S. in
exercise science. He completed his master's degree in exercise science (exercise, nutrition and eating behavior track) from George Washington in August of 2003. In addition, Shiratori earned a bachelor of letters in English literature in 1998 from Doshisha University in Kyoto, Japan.
