Stony Brook, N.Y. -
The Stony Brook Athletic Department sponsored a day to celebrate the Future Possibilities Organization on February 3.
Future Possibilities is an organization that gives people the opportunity to receive coaching with interactive technology by trained volunteers. The coaches then use those skills to teach and give exposure to inner-city elementary school children.
"Through these coaching partnerships our kids learn how to set and pursue goals, and they become confident and optimistic about their ability to navigate their worlds," said Tony Hooper, Executive Director.
The Future Possibilities group of children that attended were ages 7-12 and from schools in the Bronx, Harlem and the Lower East Side of Manhattan. During the day, the children enjoyed a tour of the campus, a speech by Dean Laskowski, kid/coach workshops in the student center and lunch at the Sports Complex concession stand. The kids were also in attendance at the Stony Brook men's basketball game against Maritime.
