Stony Brook, NY -- -
The Stony Brook University athletic department has announced today that all athletic events scheduled from Thursday through Sunday have been postponed due to the recent air tragedies in New York, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania.
The football team was scheduled to open its season against Siena at Seawolves Field on Saturday. The women's soccer team was to host Fairfield, American and St. Joseph's in the Holiday Inn Express Tournament Friday and Sunday at University Field. The men's soccer team was scheduled to host Manhattan on Thursday and to play at Adelphi on Sunday. The men's tennis team was supposed to head to Colgate University to begin its fall season. The cross country team was also supposed to host the Seawolves Invitational.
All of those events have been postponed. No make-up dates have been scheduled.
"For the safety involving all of the athletes travelling to competition and out of respect for the terrible, terrible tragedies in our nation, we feel it would be best to leave this as a time for mourning," said Richard Laskowski, Dean of Physical Education and Athletics.
Stony Brook is scheduled to resume competition on Tuesday night when the volleyball team hosts Binghamton at 7:00 p.m.
