Kay Don To Step Down As Managing Director Of The Sports Complex

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Kay Don, Managing Director of the Stony Brook University Indoor Sports Complex, will retire October 1, Director of Athletics Jim Fiore announced today. Don has spent the last eight years overseeing all of Stony Brook's athletic facilities while coordinating hundreds of university and community activities during her tenure.

"Kay has been a driving force behind Stony Brook's move to Division I and in particular the overall improvement to our athletic facilities," said Director of Athletics Jim Fiore. "She is leaving an indelible mark on our profession that will not soon be forgotten. The Stony Brook family wishes her great success in her future endeavors."

During her tenure, she was instrumental in many campus facility improvements including the completion of the $22 million Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium that opened in September of 2002 and the installation of a new softball field that ushered in Stony Brook's first season of America East play the previous spring. Furthermore, Don also spearheaded several office renovations and improvements, as well as, hosting many championships and regional external events over the course of her tenure at SBU.

"I've enjoyed my years at Stony Brook University and extend my well wishes for continued success." said Don.

Prior to Stony Brook, Don spent 25 years in various aspects of intercollegiate athletics in Texas and California. She was the Assistant Athletics Director at Texas A&M University for 12 years where she was responsible for the formation of the women's athletic program, coached various sports and was the first woman administrator in the athletics department. In 1984, she became the Associate Athletics Director at Long Beach State University where she was responsible for the women's basketball program that made two final four appearances during her stint. She also oversaw the men's and women's volleyball teams which won three national championships between them and the softball team which advanced to the college world series on six occasions.

In 1993, she became the Director of Athletics at California State University at Dominguez Hills. Throughout her career in athletics, Don has served on the NCAA Council, numerous committees and is the former President of the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators. On November 22, she will be inducted into the Southwest Texas State University, her alma mater, Athletics Hall of Fame in San Marcos, Texas.
