Stony Brook, N.Y. - Sam Dorsett ran for 162 yards on 23 carries and one touchdown, leading Robert Morris (10-0, 8-0 NEC) to their 17th straight victory Saturday afternoon, 36-6, over Stony Brook. The Colonials finished the 2000 season undefeated for the first time in their history while Stony Brook's (2-8, 1-7 NEC) two wins is the second fewest in the history of the program. Robert Morris capitalized on a pair of turnovers by Stony Brook quarterback David Rodriguez (Long Branch, N.J.) and the rushing of Sam Dorsett to take a 14-0 first half lead. Rodriguez fumbled on a third-and-five and Robert Morris recovered at the Stony Brook 46-yard line. Nine plays later, Ryan Swofford pounded his way into the endzone to give the Colonials a 7-0 advantage. Early in the second quarter, Rodriguez's pass was picked off by Joe Austin on a second-and-four. Seven plays later, Nick Daniel scampered in from six yards out. Both drives were set-up by the outstanding rushing of Sam Dorsett, who piled up 133 yards in the first half on 15 carries. The Seawolves had an opportunity to close within 14-7 as Chad King (Ocean Township, N.J.) took the ensuing kickoff 71 yards to the Robert Morris 20-yard line with :18 remaining in the second quarter. However, Mike Soto's (East Rockaway, N.Y.) 33-yard field goal was short and wide left as time expired. Stony Brook's Ralph Menendez (E. Moriches, N.Y.) rambled 99 yards in the first half - part of a 143-yard performance for the senior, including a 45-yard scamper deep into Robert Morris territory. But Stony Brook could not capitalize on the next set of downs, unable to complete a fourth-and-five conversion. Robert Morris dominated the second half, as Dorsett ran in from five yards out to take a 21-0 lead with 4:13 remaining in the third. On their next drive, the Colonials drove 77 yards on five plays and scored when quarterback Tim Levcik went across the grain to hit Opio Gary on a five-yard completion and the Colonials were in complete command at 28-0.
