The Stony Brook University dance team received a bid to participate in the National Dance Alliance Chick-fil-a Cheer and Dance Collegiate Championship in April.
The squad qualified for the competition based on a video entry that featured jazz, pom and funk routines, as well as various technical dance skills.
Stony Brook will be one of 17 teams competing in the Dance Division I category, including 2001 champion Towson University. Forty-seven other teams will compete in the Division IA and Division II categories.
The 18-member team, which performs at all men's and women's home basketball games, will travel to Daytona Beach, Fla., in April for the Championships.
