.Laura Lestrange oversees the academic progress for approximately 110 student-athletes to ensure degree progress and maintain NCAA eligibility.
She joined Stony Brook in May 2012 and currently serves as an academic advisor with men’s lacrosse, volleyball, softball, and swimming and diving.
Born and raised in Smithtown, Lestrange earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Binghamton University in 2005 and a master of arts in teaching in English education from Stony Brook two years later.
She previously worked as an English teacher for two years and a reading tutor for five years.
Lestrange and husband Ryan live in Holbrook with their son, Jake.
Her brother Craig Matuza competed on the Stony Brook track & field team and graduated from the university in 2003.
Lestrange previously has worked with the football, men’s and women’s soccer and tennis teams.
