Katie Vahle

Katie Vahle brings a decorated Division I playing career, collegiate coaching experience, and deep Long Island lacrosse roots to the Stony Brook coaching staff.

Vahle began her collegiate coaching career at Central Michigan University in January 2026 following a standout career as a goalkeeper at Arizona State University. Just two months into her first collegiate coaching season, Vahle was elevated to interim head coach and led the Chippewas for the final 11 games of the 2026 campaign.

Serving as the program's lone coach during that stretch, Vahle guided Central Michigan to a 4-7 record, including a 3-4 mark in Mid-American Conference play, and kept the Chippewas in contention for a MAC Tournament berth through the final game of the season. Under her leadership, a player earned Second Team All-MAC honors, and a player was selected to the MAC All-Freshman Team.

Prior to entering the collegiate coaching ranks, Vahle completed one of the most accomplished goalkeeping careers in Arizona State lacrosse history. A four-year starting goalkeeper for the Sun Devils from 2022-25, Vahle finished her career as Arizona State's all-time leader in career saves with 661 and career wins with 35. Her 661 saves ranked third among active NCAA Division I goalkeepers at the conclusion of her career. She recorded double-digit saves in 31 of 73 career appearances while adding 114 ground balls and 22 caused turnovers.

Vahle made an immediate impact at Arizona State, starting all 19 games as a freshman and becoming the first player in program history to earn Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week honors four times in a single season. She went on to earn seven conference weekly honors during her career and was twice named to a conference All-Tournament Team, earning recognition at the 2022 Pac-12 Championship and 2025 Big 12 Championship.

Her playing career culminated in 2025 when she became Arizona State's all-time saves leader and recorded a career-high 18 saves against USC. Her consistency, athleticism and leadership in the cage established Vahle as one of the most accomplished goalkeepers in Sun Devil program history.

A native of Manorville, New York, Vahle developed as a goalkeeper at Eastport-South Manor
High School, one of Long Island's premier girls' lacrosse programs.

Vahle continued to develop into one of Long Island's top goalkeepers and, as a senior in 2021, earned USA Lacrosse All-American honors before continuing her playing career at Arizona State.

Vahle remained connected to Eastport-South Manor throughout her collegiate playing career, spending four years as a volunteer assistant coach with her alma mater. The experience allowed her to begin developing her coaching philosophy while working with players in the same program that helped shape her own career.

Her Long Island lacrosse background also includes extensive experience with the Long Island Yellow Jackets. Vahle competed for the Yellow Jackets during her club career before later returning to the organization as a coach, working with the Yellow Jackets' 2033 and 2034 teams
during the 2024 and 2025 seasons.

Vahle earned two degrees from Arizona State, receiving her bachelor's degree in Sports Business before completing a master's degree in Digital Audience Strategy. Her background as a New York State champion, record-setting Division I goalkeeper, Long Island club and high school coach, and collegiate head coach provides Vahle with a wide-ranging perspective on player development, defensive strategy, recruiting and program leadership.
