Kim Hillier

Kim Hillier

Kim Hillier rejoined the Stony Brook staff in September 2016 as the Seawolves' associate head coach and has been influential in developing the Seawolves' offense.

Hillier and the Seawolves once again saw success in 2019, securing its seventh-straight America East title en route to another NCAA Tournament Second Round appearance following a thrilling 10-9 overtime victory over reigning national champion James Madison in the first round. Under Hillier’s watch, senior Keri McCarthy ended her Stony Brook career as the program’s record-holder in draw controls with 387.

2018 was a record-breaking year for Stony Brook, who won 20 games for the second-straight season. The Seawolves earned the first No. 1 national ranking in program history, staying atop all three major lacrosse polls for 11-straight weeks heading into the 2018 postseason. The Seawolves finished the year leading the nation in six major Division I categories: points per game (29.28), scoring margin (+10.80), assists per game (11.23), shot percentage (.547), turnovers per game (12.00), and team defense (7.09 goals-allowed per contest).

Hillier joined the Seawolves for their most successful season in program history in 2017, as Stony Brook went 20-2 and appeared in its first NCAA quarterfinal. Under Hillier's tutelage, the Seawolves rose from 69th to 18th in the nation in draw controls per game, while sophomore Keri McCarthy set the program single-season draw control record with 106.

The Farmingdale native was a member of Joe Spallina’s staff in the Stony Brook head coach’s first season with the Seawolves in 2012, returns to Stony Brook after spending the last four seasons at Boston University. The Terriers advanced to the Patriot League semifinals in all three years in the conference, along with a Patriot League title game appearance in 2014.

Prior to her first stint with the Seawolves, Hillier spent three years on the staff at LIU Brooklyn. Hillier is a 2007 graduate of Hofstra, where she was a two-time All-American and four-time All-CAA selection.

"I am extremely honored to be back on Long Island and to have the opportunity to coach a nationally ranked program,” Hillier said. “I look forward to using my passion for the game to help prepare each student-athlete to excel above and beyond their ability, both on and off the field. I am eager to be back, coaching alongside Joe, who is hands down one of the best coaches in the game."

“I am very excited to welcome Kim back to Stony Brook,” Spallina said. “She is a great coach that brings unparalleled energy and fire every day. She was instrumental in recruiting our current senior class and is a relentless worker that
is a proven winner on and off the field.”

“Kim’s great Long Island ties, work ethic and appreciation for the growth of our program were big factors in welcoming Kim back to Long Island as our associate head coach,” Spallina added.
