Carrion-Rodriguez arrived at Stony Brook in August 2015 from La Linea, Spain, and she graduated with honors in May 2019 after a distinguished career on and off the tennis court.
Â
The eight-time Dean’s List member received a number of accolades to recognize her achievements both in the classroom and in the community. In Spring 2019, Carrion-Rodriguez was one of only 15 undergraduate students from Stony Brook to be presented the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence, given to students who have best demonstrated their integration of academic excellence with other aspects of their lives.
Â
In 2017, she was one of 450 student-athletes selected to attend the NCAA APPLE Conference — meant to further student-athlete health and wellness education — in Nashville, Tennessee. During her career on Long Island, Carrion-Rodriguez served as a Stony Brook Student Ambassador and an Academy of Leaders member among a number of leadership positions.
Carrion-Rodriguez was as an intern in Stony Brook Athletics Life Skills Department, creating, planning and organizing events for freshmen student-athletes to help aid their transition into a Division I student-athlete and a member of a college community. She was also a teaching assistant for the school’s first-year seminar for student-athletes, providing academic and social support to freshmen.
Â
Carrion-Rodriguez served as a two-year captain for the Seawolves, winning more than 65 matches during her career and leading the team to its first Missouri Valley Conference Championship match in 2019. For her efforts, she was named the winner of the Elite 17 Award by the Missouri Valley Conference as well as a member of its All-Select team.
Â
Stony Brook Athletics also named Carrion-Rodriguez the department’s Senior Scholar-Athlete Award and Noah Farrelly Spirit of the Seawolf Award recipient. The latter was presented to the male and female student-athlete who exemplified the passion and pride for their Stony Brook Athletics experience.
