Stony Brook women’s basketball head coach Joy McCorvey announced the addition of Evan Turkish to the coaching staff in July 2025. Turkish comes to Long Island after coaching stints at Nicholls State, James Madison and most recently, Appalachian State.

An assistant on the 2023-24 Appalachian State women’s basketball coaching staff, Turkish helped the Mountaineers to 17 wins, a six win improvement from the previous season along with a victory in the Second Round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. During his time in North Carolina, he led the Mountaineers' offense and guided the team to the most points per game in the past 15 seasons, while setting the school record for most three-pointers made in a season. Turkish worked with senior guard Faith Alston to improve her scoring output from 10.5 to 18.3 points per game. He also made direct contributions to the 91 points Appalachian State scored against undefeated and ranked Marquette during their non-conference slate.

Before joining App State, Turkish served as the director of recruiting and player development for the 2022-23 season at James Madison. He helped the Dukes to 26 wins (12-win improvement), their first Sun Belt Conference regular season and tournament title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2016. He mentored Kiki Jefferson, who improved from Second Team All-Conference to Sun Belt Player of the Year.

Turkish broke into the collegiate coaching ranks in 2021-22, serving as an assistant coach and the recruiting coordinator at Nicholls State. With the Colonels, Turkish worked with Chelsea Cain and Chyna Allen, who both ranked within the top-five in the Southland Conference in points per game. In his role as recruiting coordinator, he played an integral role in bringing in the top-rated transfer in school history.

Prior to his time in Louisiana, Turkish worked as an analyst at Entergy, a Fortune 500 integrated energy company in New Orleans. Before entering the corporate world, he was the founder and owner of Sports Trainer Index, a platform to analyze collegiate athletic programs' recruiting needs and matched high school student-athletes with college coaches.

Turkish, the New Orleans native, played professional basketball for the Freedom Professional League in Phoenix, Arizona. He earned a bachelor of arts in management in 2013 while playing baseball at Loyola of New Orleans and later, semi-professionally. He earned a master of science in analytics at American University in 2018 as well. He was also a member of the College of Charleston men’s basketball program for one season. Turkish and his wife Meghan, have a son Hayden.
