Stony Brook Seawolves

Kevin Elliott

Kevin Elliott was named the Stony Brook football special teams coordinator and outside linebackers coach on January 17, 2024.

Elliott joined the Seawolves after spending the previous two seasons at Missouri State. In 2023, he moved to coaching safeties under head coach Ryan Beard.

The 2024 season was nothing short of historic for Elliott and the Seawolves. After finishing 0-10 (0-8 CAA) in 2023 and being projected to finish last in the league, the team completed a stunning turnaround by going 8-4 overall and 5-3 in conference play. The dramatic improvement marked Stony Brook’s first winning season since 2018, its highest national ranking in six years (No. 16), and a No. 24 finish in the final Stats Perform regular season poll.

Under Elliott’s guidance, kicker Enda Kirby earned All-CAA Second Team honors and rewrote the record books, setting program records for most field goals made in a season, most attempts, and highest field goal percentage in Stony Brook history. On kickoffs, Spencer Biscoe helped the Seawolves rank third in the CAA in both touchbacks and total kickoff yards. In the punting game, Elliott coached Clayton Taylor to the third-best punting average in the conference (39.7), while Taylor’s 42.3-yard average ranked second all-time at Stony Brook. The special teams unit also contributed two blocked punts on the season.

The 2025 season continued that momentum as Stony Brook finished 6-6 overall and 4-4 in CAA play with a 5-1 home record, the program’s best at home since 2018. Elliott’s special teams unit remained among the most reliable in the conference, ranking fourth in the CAA in kickoff return unit performance at 42.6. The kicking game was steady all year, finishing 35-for-35 on PATs, while the team also did not allow a blocked kick or punt during the season.

Kicker Michael Mannino delivered one of the most productive seasons in program history, finishing with the fourth-most made field goals in school history and setting a program record with a 49-yard field goal, which he hit twice during the season. Elliott also helped elevate the return game, with Jayce Freeman ranking 13th in the FCS in kickoff return yards. The Seawolves also ranked ninth nationally in fewest penalties.

In his first season at Missouri State, Elliott mentored the outside linebackers and was part of a defensive unit in 2022 that produced four all-conference selections. His position group featured standout performances from players such as Tahj Chambers, who posted 35 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, and two sacks.

In his second season at Missouri State, he helped Todric McGee and Devin Goree earn All-MVFC honors and guided cornerback Avery Powell to FCS Freshman All-America recognition. The defense ranked top five in the conference in multiple categories, including interceptions, forced fumbles, and fumble recoveries.

Prior to Missouri State, Elliott spent two seasons at Greensboro College as defensive coordinator and secondary coach from 2020-21. Before that, he served as assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at Concord University, where his defense led the Mountain East Conference in turnovers and ranked fifth nationally in fumble recoveries. He coached five All-MEC selections during his tenure.

Elliott also previously worked as a defensive graduate assistant at Louisville, where he was part of an ACC Atlantic Division championship staff, multiple bowl teams, and a defense that ranked nationally in several major statistical categories. He was part of the staff that helped develop Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson.

Before Louisville, Elliott spent three seasons at Concord coaching defensive backs and later adding special teams coordinator duties. During that time, he helped lead the program to a 13-1 season, a conference title, and a NCAA Division II playoff appearance, while developing multiple All-Conference, All-Region, and All-American players.

As a player at Concord, Elliott was a four-year letter winner, team captain, and All-Conference selection. He helped lead the program to a conference title and its first NCAA Division II playoff appearance. He finished second in the conference with four interceptions in 2012.

Elliott earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education and health in 2013 and his master’s degree in health promotion in 2015 from Concord University. He and his wife Nikki have three children and reside on Long Island.
