Salvatore D’Onofrio joined the Stony Brook University Athletics Department in September 2022, as a Strategic Communications Assistant.
D’Onofrio arrives after spending the 2021-22 academic year in the New Jersey City University Athletic Department as a Communication Assistant and then promoted to Senior Communication Assistant over the past summer. At NJCU, D’Onofrio worked with all 22 varsity programs assisting and promoting with creative services, broadcasting, video production of “GothicVision”, photo editing, graphic design, gameday operations, written, video and digital content on NJCUGothicKnights.com and all @NJCUGothicKnights social media channels. Also, D’Onofrio helped with different stating and play-by-play needs with men’s/women’s basketball, baseball, softball, and volleyball.
Before NJCU, D’Onofrio spent his first five months post-graduation interning with the American Junior Golf Association as the Southeast Communications Traveling Intern. In this experience, D’Onofrio spent five months traveling to 15 different states to help the media aspect of 17 tournaments for the best junior-golfers in the country. D’Onofrio was one of two main media contacts at tournaments such as Wyndham Cup, Arnold Palmer Invitational, Sedgefield Invitational, Harold Varner III Foundation JAS, Matthew NeSmith Junior Championship, and Sam Burns Classic. D’Onofrio also created website content for tournament press releases, round recaps, and other written publications, while establishing and maintaining relationships with current and prospective stakeholders, sponsors, and players.
A native of Long Island, New York, D’Onofrio graduated from York College of Pennsylvania in 2021 with a Sport Management B.S. degree while minoring in Athletic Coaching and Business Administration. He was a member of the varsity baseball team, capturing the 2021 Middle Atlantic Conference championship in their inaugural season in the conference. D’Onofrio was also a member of the All-CAC Academic Team from 2017-20, All-MAC Academic Team in 2021, and the vice president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) as well as being a peer-mentor for a student on the autism spectrum. D’Onofrio got to learn from the Sport Information Director at YCP, Scott Guise, as he interned for him throughout his four years.
