Brendan Faherty was named the head women's soccer coach on Dec. 9, 2015, making him just the second coach in program history.

Over his first two seasons with the program, Faherty has guided the Seawolves to a 20-19-3 record, two postseason conference tournament appearances, a conference championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance.

Stony Brook went 11-11 (4-4 AE) in 2017, topping Vermont, 2-1, in the 2017 America East Women’s Soccer Championship at LaValle Stadium to earn the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2012. Stony Brook won four games in the non-conference portion of its 2017 schedule – the most victories in non-conference action for the program since the 2013 season. The Seawolves' coaching staff saw five student-athletes take home all-conference honors, including goalkeeper Sofia Manner being named America East Rookie of the Year

With a win over Hartford in the quarterfinal round of the America East Women’s Soccer Championship on Oct. 26, 2017, Faherty recorded his 100th career win as a collegiate head coach. He led the University of New Haven to 82 wins over eight seasons, and has recorded 20 wins at Stony Brook thus far.

In his first season at Stony Brook, Faherty and his staff guided the Seawolves to a 9-8-3 record, sitting at 6-2-0 in conference play, which was good for a third-place finish in the America East. The team earned its first America East playoff appearance since the 2013 season after notching a Division-I era record six straight conference wins in league play. He became the first first-year head coach to earn America East Coach of the Year honors and saw six players earn all-conference accolades, including two on the first team.

Faherty spent three seasons at the University of Washington, guiding the Huskies to NCAA Tournament appearances in his last two, including a trip to the NCAA Third Round in 2014. While at Washington, Faherty helped mold five NSCAA All-Pacific Region players, three Capital One Academic All-Americans and four NSCAA Scholar All-Americans. The Huskies recorded a 37-24-6 record (.597) during his tenure.

Prior to his time at Washington, Faherty spent three seasons at the University of Massachusetts, where he was promoted to Associate Head Coach in September of 2012. The Minutewomen made the Atlantic-10 Tournament in all three of Faherty’s seasons, advancing to the conference championship in 2011.

Faherty’s coaching career began at the University of New Haven, where he served as the head women’s soccer coach for eight seasons, leading the Chargers to two Division II NCAA Tournament Appearances. He was named the NYCAC Coach of the Year in 2005.

Faherty, who played at Northeastern University from 1996-99 and a season professionally with the Cape Cod Crusaders in the USL, holds a United States Soccer Federation “A” License and an NSCAA Advanced National Diploma. He graduated from Northeastern University with a Bachelor of Science in 2001, earned a Postgraduate Degree in the Business of Football from the University of Liverpool in 2002, and received a Master of Science in Management of Sports Industries from the University of New Haven in 2016.

What they are saying about Brendan Faherty...

"We are obviously sad to be losing a quality coach and person like Brendan Faherty, but are clearly thrilled for him to have earned this opportunity to be a Division I head women's soccer coach. In his time at Washington, Brendan has been an exemplary recruiter, a great coach, and a person whose integrity makes him an outstanding role model for our student-athletes.  When I hire for this position, it is typically with the intent of supporting that coach’s desire to become a head coach, and I'm pleased that Brendan was able to use his time at UW to learn and grow to help him reach that goal. I have no doubts that he'll bring great success to the program at Stony Brook and afford his student-athletes a great intercollegiate experience "
