Seawolves Sweep Fairfield In Tennis

STONY BROOK, NY -- - The University and Stony Brook men's and women's tennis teams opened their respective dual match seasons in spectacular fashion Wednesday afternoon, defeating Fairfield. The women posted a 9-0 win while the men also posted a shutout, winning, 7-0.

On the men's side, Jens Pilgram-Larsen posted a 6-0, 6-1 win at #2 singles, bringing his singles record to 4-0 this season. Gareth Williams won at #3 singles, 6-0, 6-0 and also remained undefeated with a 4-0 mark. The Seawolves lost just 15 of a possible 159 points in the match.

In doubles, Egil Anonsen and Pillgram-Larsen posted an 8-1 victory and improved to 4-0 this season.

Martha Barrett and Barb Affertsholt won at #1 and #2 singles, respectively. Barrett won, 6-1, 6-1 - improving to 3-2 while Affertsholt won 6-1, 6-0 and is now 4-3 on the season. Barrett and Zink teamed at #1 doubles for an 8-0 win.

The men's team - now 1-0 - will head to the Scott Satran Memorial tournament this weekend while the women's team - also 1-0 - heads to the New York State Championships at Binghamton October 6-8.
