The Rutgers volleyball team (5-2) celebrated its home opener with a 3-0 win over Stony Brook (1-5), 15-3, 15-3, 15-3.
Rutgers came out strong, registering a hitting percentage of .301 to the Seawolves' .022. Rutgers also had seven team blocks to Stony Brook's four.
Senior Kera Carter led Rutgers with 12 kills and 23 digs. Sophomore setter Pualani Tuyay and junior setter Ginger Schuster each had 20 assists.
Freshman Rachel Goldsmith led the Seawolves with 24 digs, while senior Catrina Gordon had 17. Junior Susanne Westing and senior Cynthia Orengo each had four kills.
The Seawolves return to action this weekend when they compete at the Bucknell Invitational.
