Stony Brook Swimming Swept By Fordham

Nov. 15, 2000

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook men's and women's swimming team was swept by Fordham at University Pool on Wednesday night. The women fell by a score of 130-102, while Fordham defeated the men's team, 131-94.

On the men's side, seven different Rams recorded first-place finishes, with Lance Jochims and Ben Chisholm each winning two events to pace the way for Fordham. Diver J.P. Spear also won both the one- and three-meter diving events as the Stony Brook men dropped their fourth loss in dual meets this season (0-4).

Freshman Starlyn Rupinski continued to stand out for the Seawolves women, winning both the 100 free and 1000 free. Rupinski's time of 56.68 was good for first in the 100 free, while she won the 1000 with a time of 11:09.70. Sophomore Sarah Doret won the 50 free for Stony Brook, placing first with a time of 26.46. Divers Kristi Schubert and Erin Byrnes also did well for the Stony Brook cause. Byrnes was victorious in the one-meter, while Schubert won the three-meter event. However, it wasn't enough as the women fall to 2-3 on the season with the defeat.

Stony Brook returns to action when both the men and women travel to take on Iona and St. Francis on Tuesday, Nov. 28.
